La Luna És Siempre Muy Linda
Victor Jara
The Moon Is Always Very Beautiful
I remember my father's face,
like a hole in the wall,
sheets stained with mud,
dirt floor, my mother day and night,
working, cries and screams
Playing the angel and the devil,
playing the child that will not be born,
the candles always lit,
we must seek refuge in something,
where does the money come from to pay for faith?
Recited:
I don't remember that from heaven,
a glorious harvest came down,
nor that my mother had a little peace,
nor that my father stopped drinking
Chant:
The poor are so frightened
so they swallow all their pains,
so that their misery is filled with images,
The moon is always very beautiful
and the sun dies every evening.
That's why I want to shout,
I believe in nothing but the warmth,
of your hand in mine,
that's why I want to shout,
I believe in nothing but love
