Venían del desierto
Victor Jara
They Came from the Desert
They came from the desert,
from the hills and the sea,
the heart broke free
and started to roam.
They knew about death,
how tough life can be.
They came from the desert,
from the hills and the sea.
The comrade spoke to them
about our humanity,
the story of the mine,
of the fields and the city.
So much humiliation
resonated in their souls,
and that whole crowd
understood the brotherhood.
They went back to work,
miners and fishermen,
singing of hope,
building unity,
with sticks and drums
and metal flutes,
planting the seeds
that everyone will enjoy.
