El hombre es un creador
Victor Jara
Man is a creator
Just like many others
I learned to sweat as a child,
I didn't know schools
nor what playing is.
They would take me out of bed
early in the morning
and next to my dad
I grew up working.
With my pure skill
I tried my hand at carpentry
plastering and bricklaying
plumbing and turning,
I wish I had had education
because from every element
man is a creator.
I build a house for him
or I construct a road
I add flavor to wine
I make the factory smoke.
I go to the depths of the earth
and conquer the heights,
I walk among the stars
and plow through the thickets.
I learned the vocabulary
of the master, owner, and boss,
I've been killed so many times
for raising my voice,
but I get up from the ground
because I'm lent a hand,
because now I'm not alone,
because now we are many.
