Neptuno
Victor Manuel
Neptune
I count the seaweed that populates the sea,
I count the fish that I can count,
the seashells and all the coral
even the waves that come and go.
There is no more water, more air,
nor more horizons that I can count.
Since I am a king and cannot reign
I have turned into a statue of salt.
I know the trident does not give authority
that experience is so harmful.
They say that slowly and steadily
the sea level is rising
and it's been a long time since
all the beings living there started to cry.
Seagulls and some cormorants pass by,
a shooting star travels south.
Oh! what I would give to fly over
happy seas free of tar.
I count the ships and lose count
of so many that I manage to count.
Costa da Morte that faces the sea
you taught me to shout 'Never again'.
