Ustedes No Me Recuerdan
Victor Manuel
You Don't Remember Me
You don't remember me,
They called me Rosita,
Everyone talked about it,
I was born under a tree.
It's been almost three years
Since those floods hit,
Now we're facing drought
Until it rains all at once.
Under the river timpopo
When the waters receded
There were no houses, no cows,
Nothing at all, really.
I'm not gonna ask you to remember where,
We were the news on every TV.
Dinners, breakfasts, we shared together
And even indifference from some.
You don't remember me
Because I used to have legs,
Because I used to have arms
And they stole my footprints.
Doesn't that ring a bell?
I had family and a home
And I didn't have a face
Mangled by shrapnel.
I'm filled with ghosts,
The rage never fades away.
They say they bombed us
To find our weapons.
I guess you remember me
If you think back a little,
Maybe I can stop the forgetfulness
If I refresh your memory.
I was in Palestine
Stuck to my camera,
I didn't see someone aiming
With the intent to hit.
In Lugo, it's murder
And everyone’s a criminal,
Those who order the shot
And those who tell us to be quiet.
You don't remember me,
You've seen me a ton of times.
Everything passes, nothing stays,
There's always something more urgent.
