There were two boys
There were two boys being raised halfway.
Xuan the oldest and the other Colás.
There were two shepherds trotting the meadows,
leaning over the valley that overlooks the county.
They had seen four winters dreaming of seeing the sea,
four springs preparing the escape.
I'm going to lock up the cattle
and that's how we got to where it is.
From Laviana to near El Berrón
they walked the road to Xixón.
As the sun set, they stopped to rest
and spent the night by a campfire.
They cried in silence at seeing so much water in the sea.
It joins far away with the sky, says Colás.
I don't know if you feel the same,
with so much humidity it makes you want to stay.
This is the story of two shepherds
who descended from the Tarna pass to Xixón, to see the sea,
and a municipal policeman fined them twenty-five pesetas
for pouring water on the beach of San Lorenzo, next to the stairs.
