Near My House
I know a family near my ranch,
father, mother, three children and a very old grandfather.
The mother is expecting the fourth son,
the father is suffering from unemployment.
Together they fight for their dignity,
because today the taxes have been accumulating.
He has no job and can't pay them,
and on top of that, he gets beaten in the protests.
They want to evict them from the neighborhood,
because they say the lands belong to the state.
And the supermarket that will buy them,
won't give them work, nor will they give them credit.
They are just humble people looking for a job,
they are not to blame for what is happening.
He knows how difficult it is to wake up
and see that his children want breakfast.
So I go out to the street and see,
a beautiful lady with her purse on her arm.
A part of me wants to snatch it,
but the bigger part reflects and always wins.
I don't want to steal, I want to work,
I am a very good person to end up in jail.
What example will I give to my children?
What good example will I give if I bring nothing home.
There is so much unemployment in the streets,
many dignified people who want to work.
The children see their father and whisper together,
they don't want to be foolish workers.
Because those who work here never progress,
life under the state becomes routine.
I can't even treat myself to anything,
if the cost of living keeps rising.
We can't deny that something is wrong,
there is a lot of misery, a lot of disunity.
Some fight for what little they have,
while others watch it on TV.
Let's unite in our demands and come out together,
for yours, for mine, for the one next to me.
When will people understand,
that disunity is how they control us like cattle.
When will all these protests end,
they demand justice and no one gives it to them.
Those who govern us know nothing of this,
their children have breakfast every morning.
They don't get dirty when they go to school,
because their streets are paved.
They don't worry about what to eat,
the maid will take care of that.
We can't deny that something is wrong,
there is a lot of misery and disunity.
Some fight for what little they have,
while others watch it on TV.
Let's unite in our demands and come out together.
For yours, for mine,
for the one next to me.
When will people understand,
that disunity is how they control us like cattle...
