O Gato
Vinicius de Moraes
The Cat
With a beautiful leap
Light and secure
The cat passes
From the ground to the wall
Soon changing
His mind
He passes again
From the wall to the ground
And steps and passes
Carefully, softly
He grabs and runs, silently
Behind a poor little bird
And then stops
As if startled
Then he dashes
Jumps to the side
If he gets tangled
He bristles his fur, grumpy
A lazy one is what he is
And he really likes to be petted
With a beautiful leap
Light and secure
The cat passes
From the ground to the wall
Soon changing
His mind
He passes again
From the wall to the ground
And steps and passes
Carefully, softly
He grabs and runs, silently
Behind a poor little bird
And then stops
As if startled
Then he dashes
Jumps to the side
And when fatigue comes at night
He takes his bath
Running his tongue over his belly
