La Receta

The Recipe
I wrote to Juancito
That I couldn't find
The inspiration
To make a merengue
That carries the flavor
Of the province
I asked Juancito
To reply
And as soon as possible
Write me that little merengue
And I thanked him
For all his education
And I remained waiting
Calmly for that little favor
Juancito wrote to me
Despite being
A very busy man,
From his manuscript
The letter that
Caught my attention
And in response
It read as follows:
To make a merengue
I have the recipe for you.
A guacharacha,
A box, an accordion
And a cheerful voice
That keeps the rhythm.
And in a pot
Put them on the stove
And stir them
So they gain consistency.
Add essences
That come from the heart,
Season it
With leaves of patience.
And then grate
Lemon peels
And make the song
With your own experiences.
The time that goes by
Don't let it take away the innocence.
I keep reading below
Where it says warning
That to make a little merengue
It has its science.
Dance, dance
I bring my little merengue.
From the Colombian Caribbean
As I asked Juancito
With his provincial touch
For the poor and the rich.
Dance, dance
I bring my little merengue.
For all my brothers
For the adults and the children,
I bring you the recipe
To make a little merengue.
The time that goes by
You can never stop it.
Take life calmly,
Let's not have so much mystery
For the years pass by
And then there's no remedy.
