Moskva-Odessa
Vladimir Vysotsky
Moscow-Odessa
Every time I fly Moscow - Odessa,
They keep delaying the damn flight.
And here comes the flight attendant in blue,
Reliable, like the whole civilian fleet.
No clouds over Murmansk, not a single one,
And right now, I’m flying to Ashgabat.
Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chișinău are open,
And Lviv’s open too, but I don’t need to go there!
They told me: - don’t count on today,
Don’t put your faith in the skies.
And here we go again, another delay for Odessa -
Now the runway’s frozen over.
In Leningrad, the roof’s leaking,
Why can’t I just fly to Leningrad?
In Tbilisi - it’s all clear, it’s warm,
Tea’s growing there, but I don’t need to go there.
I hear the folks from Rostov are taking off,
But I need to get to Odessa.
I need to go where they haven’t accepted flights for three days,
And that’s why they keep pushing back the flight.
I need to go where the snow’s piled high,
Where they’re expecting a blizzard tomorrow.
Let it be somewhere clear and warm,
It’s nice there, but I don’t need to go there!
They won’t let me out from here, and they won’t take me there,
It’s unfair, murky, but here we are.
The bored flight attendant calls us to board,
Accessible, like the whole civilian fleet.
They opened the farthest corner,
Where they won’t lure you with rewards.
They opened the closed port of Vladivostok,
Paris is open, but I don’t need to go there.
We’ll take off, the weather will clear up, they’ll lift the bans,
The liner’s tensed up, I hear the turbines whine.
I’m sitting on pins and needles, and suddenly they won’t take us again,
Once more, there’ll be a ton of reasons.
I need to go where the blizzards and fog are,
Where they’re expecting a blizzard tomorrow.
London’s open, Delhi, Magadan,
They’ve opened everything, but I don’t need to go there.
I’m right, whether I cry or laugh,
But again, the flight’s delayed,
And it leads us back to the past,
All slim, like “you,”
That flight attendant Miss Odessa,
Looks like the whole civilian fleet.
Once again, they’re delaying until eight,
And the passengers quietly fall asleep...
I’m so damn tired of this, damn it,
And I’m flying to where they’ll take me.
