Die Laatste Dag

A person doesn't die
on that last day
with somber bells
and mourning
maybe they already passed away
without tears
barely noticeable
so many years ago

So many adults
in work and traffic
so many lost souls
so busy
so many poor souls
in great need
if the child in us dies
then we die

A person doesn't die
when they're tired
their heart gives out
and their breath stops
that dying
has been going on for years
dying
you do it your whole life

No father and mother
to the other side
your child
your beloved to the other land
you sink and drown
in a sea of tears
every time someone dies
a part of you dies too

A person doesn't die
when their body decomposes
to dust and ash
their body fades away
maybe death
is a simplification
through fire and earth
a kind of purification

Look at the light
and hear how it blows
see how mother earth
keeps turning
bless the rain,
our wine and our bread
there is no boundary
between life and death.
