Hey again,
How's the town on a night like this in August when summer's washed away?
It's been a while, I should've called, but calling now feels kinda silly and short.
I'm in Oslo with your ex, but there's nothing between us
we're just wandering around Karl-Johan, and I needed to break free.
Here the clouds are painted in twilight quite majestically over Grand
and it looks a bit like that night when the barn burned down, if you remember.
But it was a long time ago, yeah, it was ages since something burned, at least near me!
Have you found your way home? Yeah, I heard you got an apartment now and settled down.
And it’s boring to always be on the run,
it’s so much that I should’ve accomplished by now and decided!
And it doesn’t have the same charm to stumble home at five
it’s not as inspired now as it was in '95, if you remember?
The one who perseveres wins, the one who gives up loses.
Dreams and winds help each other!
And as soon as you look down, they turn this way and sing:
Where did that fire go, where did the fire go?
That’s life now! Sorry if I’m bitter and cynical but you know how it can be!
I want it like you do, even though I know you think the same sometimes and want
it like I do.
Yeah, it wasn’t better back then, but it’s gonna get better ahead
and somewhere at least you’ve arrived if you know what you need!
And I’m trying to stay afloat as best I can, even though the highs are higher now
and the lows are deeper since the fire disappeared, as you know?
We can meet again, I like Stångån in the fall, when everyday randomness has settled
over the squares.
Then you can breathe again and spend hours embracing joy or contemplating sorrow?
You get to choose and take things as they are,
is it tough that time passes and you get older, or fun to be around?
And find peace now and then among all the exams and grades, it’s so easy to go on
it’s so hard to stop and go back again, as you know!
The one who perseveres wins, the one who gives up loses.
Dreams and winds help each other!
And as soon as you look down, they turn this way and sing:
Where did that fire go?
You’ve found someone to grow old with, I’ve found something to do until then!
We have to watch out for all the better days gone by, and for boredom and dullness.
Good luck! Now it’s twilight here in Oslo, we’re going out to paint the town!
Call if you want, and say hi to those I know, keep your eyes on the sky!
There are so many, so many, who want to bring you down to earth
winter can still be long, here in the high northern mountains!
