De Kinett’n Wo I Schlof
Wolfgang Ambros
In the corner where I sleep
When in the morning the night draws the day shorter
And when the first sunbeam drives away the last twilight
Then I wake up in the corner where I sleep
The foreigners come and I have to sneak away, otherwise they'll catch me
So I crawl outside and clean myself in the dirt as well as I can
So I get up, in the corner where I sleep, so I get up
I haven't shaved or washed myself for ten days
And I have nothing but a bottle of rum in my coat pocket
I have that for breakfast and then I beg for a cigarette
And for a coin
And people come towards me like a wall coming at me
I'm the only one who goes towards them, they come closer to me
But I hold myself back and close my eyes with the first step
It doesn't matter if I work or not, even for the thin
Monastery soup it's enough even if I beg
Leave me in peace, because today they'll close my corner
Leave me in peace
