Quien Contra Mi

Who Against Me

Year 2020
A world full of uncertainty
Where I wish to wake up and say all this was a false illusion
But it's reality and discouragement has become a habit
Waiting every day that in the midst of this darkness
A light comes and enlightens us

Hey, don't back away and pay attention
Because before taking the first step
You won't start if you don't have clear what your vision is
Don't let emotions dominate you
Here you have to know how to handle pressure
And that there are worse things that have been seen before
And we have always come out ahead
There's a good vibe, the blessing is upon us
You're not wrong when you think the path is difficult
And time and time again you'll hear in your mind the voices of fear

But listen to me well
The first mountain to conquer is not convincing others
It's convincing yourself first
Because once you get into the game, no one will believe in you and it won't be easy
You'll only have yourself repeating in your mind
I can, I will achieve it, I will reach it
There's no room for second place
My place is the first

And maybe you think: 'Yandel, it's easy for you to say'
But I believed without having anything
Believing I knew how to start from scratch
And today I'm a legend
But when I started, for many I was nobody
For me, I was clear in my mind
That I was a true warrior

I come from the San Cristóbal neighborhood, Cayey
Where the street reigned, not the law
Where nothing was given for free
Everything I had was because I had fought for it
Learning to do what I didn't know
Always being real and not fake
And even though I earned little
But it was mine and that made me feel like a king
I always accepted any challenge and dare

Nothing fell from the sky for me
But the sky was always by my side
Protecting me from envy, from fake people
Those who stumbled me became steps
That I climbed to get up here
That's why I trust few

I learned to discern that even the bad things served me to grow
That's why I don't hold grudges, I hold lessons
Those who laughed now have to endure when I laugh
Always keep in mind that in the journey you'll win and you'll lose
There are sunny days, but there are other dark and gloomy days

Friends are lost who are not here today
I remember when we played as kids
Without the pressure of destiny in mind
But, as they left, I gained others
I gained history, I gained memories, brother, family
I gained having children

Where I am today is because I didn't give up
When the doors of the studios
Of producers closed and I knocked at them with the voice of fear
But, just as Michael Jordan was addicted to competition
And didn't give up until he achieved that 60
That was my existence, I kept knocking on doors
Until DJ Dicky was the first
He gave us the opportunity and that was all we needed
Because we knew how hard we worked

I come from the times where many said
That this genre wasn't going anywhere
There were no breaks on TV or radio, everything was underground
A marginalized genre, but in its rhythms and lyrics
It showed the street where I was raised
And it presented me with a big challenge of one day filling a stadium
Appearing on TV, winning awards and telling myself
I've sweated all this
And ask today on the road how many
Can say that for more than twenty years
The urban genre has dominated

Hey, I'm not telling you this to brag about who I am
I'm telling you so you understand
That if you put in the effort, you can go further than where I am
What's happening is tough, I give you that
But those who understand will know that this will make them stronger
And when this ends, it will break solid
But you have to start believing from today

No matter your age, race, gender
Don't let what's happening or anyone
Cut off your dreams or doubt your future
Just look yourself in the eye and tell yourself these words
