Le Parapluie
Yann Tiersen
The Umbrella
It was raining hard on the highway
She was walking without an umbrella
I had one, probably stolen
That very morning from a friend
Running to her rescue
I offered her a little shelter
Drying the water from her face
With a very gentle air, she said 'yes'
A little corner of umbrella
For a corner of paradise
She had something of an angel
A little corner of paradise
For a corner of umbrella
I wasn't losing in the deal, damn!
As we walked, how tender it was
To hear together the lovely song
That the sky's water made heard
On the roof of my umbrella!
I would have liked, like in the flood
To see the rain fall incessantly
To keep her, under my shelter
Forty days, forty nights
A little corner of umbrella
For a corner of paradise
She had something of an angel
A little corner of paradise
For a corner of umbrella
I wasn't losing in the deal, damn!
Stupidly, even in a storm
The roads lead to different countries
Soon hers became a barrier
On the horizon of my madness!
She had to leave me
After thanking me greatly
And I saw her, so small
Leaving happily towards my oblivion.
