El Amor
Yolandita Monge
Love
Love is a ray of indirect light
A drop of peace, a waking faith
A buzz in the air, a point in the mist
A profile, a shadow, a pause, a wait
Love is a soft rumor approaching
A distant bell, a gentle breeze
A voice in the calm, a scent of mint
A later, a maybe, a perhaps, a goal
Love sprouts between the air and the ground
It's felt and sensed, some can see it
It makes you wake up and think of it
And it calls you softly, brushing your skin
Love hypnotizes you, makes you dream
You dream and yield, let yourself be carried
It moves you inside and makes you more
It pushes you, can control you, leads you behind
And suddenly it lifts you, throws you, burns you
It lights up your soul, ignites your veins
And makes you scream as you feel the burn
It dissolves you, evaporates you, destroys you, creates you
And makes you travel on the edge of time
Climbing the rivers of a thousand universes
And takes you to glory, surrenders you to the earth
And looks at you, sees you, thinks and thinks
And suddenly love is the light of a flame
That starts to fade, goes away, extinguishes
It's the small island lost in the mist
A drop, an I don't know, a stain, a grimace
Love is the fallen leaf on the ground
A point in the sea, a thickening mist
A weight on the soul, a veiled Sun
A why? A second, a I know now, a complaint
Love descends step by step
With closed hands and tired steps
It asks you who you are? To let you know
That it barely knows you, what do you want from it?
Love mocks you, laughs at you
While you remain still, not knowing what to say
And you wish to follow it and tell it no
To stay, to return, to admit a mistake
And love shatters your grand ideas
It destroys you, breaks you, splits you, shatters you
And makes you be that which you wouldn't want
And pushes you to be bad, leaves you a mess
And throws you headfirst into the ultimate hell
Tearing your soul, trampling your body
You suffocate with longing to return to nothing
And suddenly it stops, sees you, pities you
