À Perte de Rue
Zaz
Lost in the Streets
I pace back and forth and check my pockets a hundred times
Each step that takes me further away brings me closer
The streets being demolished, the people we meet carry us away
I leap and hold on
Following the avenue that runs alongside a train station square
Then on other streets that lead to a boulevard
It's a shortcut, I walk beside the sidewalk
Meeting nowhere
I go straight ahead, straight ahead
Where to, I know, I don't know
Following the movement endlessly
The passersby disappear
Lost in the streets, I surrender
When night falls and everyone else sleeps
To the unknown, when midnight strikes
I am no one anymore
Lost in the streets, I whirl
The lasting noise of my echoing steps
Goes aimlessly when midnight strikes
I am no one anymore
The iron curtains on the closed shops
Neon lights up a distant logo
On the lampposts, a bit of vanished light
The naked universe of a city
The first passersby, the first croissants being prepared
The day in white ready to put on its suit
Some residents, some birds at a quarter past five
The first metro leaving
I go straight ahead, straight ahead
Where to, I know, I don't know
Following the movement endlessly
The passersby disappear
Lost in the streets, I surrender
When night falls and everyone else sleeps
To the unknown, when midnight strikes
I am no one anymore
Lost in the streets, I whirl
The lasting noise of my echoing steps
To the unknown, when midnight strikes
I am no one anymore
Lost in the streets, I surrender
When night falls and everyone else sleeps
To the unknown, when midnight strikes
I am no one anymore
